Abstract
Importance sampling (IS) is a statistical simulation technique for increasing the efficiency of traditional Monte Carlo methods when used to estimate low probability events. Importance sampling is applied to the simulation of optical communication systems. Three specific IIS schemes for the simulation of an optical receiver are reported. The efficiency and accuracy of these methods are demonstrated by the presentation of various numerical results for different combinations of parameters
