Abstract
Work carried out within a document analysis program is described. The work concerns the analysis and understanding of handwritten letter mail. Specific topics discussed are: (a) address segmentation into words and characters; (b) optical character recognition (OCR) of the postcode characters; and (c) feature extraction to match handwritten words against words in a dictionary database
