Abstract
In order to be able to respond to changing market needs, there must be better integration of the service carrying network with its operation support systems. The Telecommunications Information Networking Architecture (TINA) forum is working toward this integration. Some current research activities relating to the integration of network and operations are presented, and an attempt is made to describe the impact on future operations systems. Particular emphasis is placed on operations for intelligent networks, open distributed processing (ODP), and the relationship between ODP and open systems interconnection (OSI)
