Abstract :
This paper presents an overview and key assumptions of the study in which a consortium of utilities collaborate to define transmission plans to integrate approximately 56 GW of wind resources in 11 States of USA. The transmission plans are needed to transfer renewable energy within states so ~80% of the Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS) required by each state can be met. The methodology to calculate the wind energy requirements to meet ~80% of the RPS and wind nameplate capacity by state and the needed transmission plans are described in detail.
