Abstract :
Priority control is one possible solution for achieving traffic control in an asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) network. A priority congestion control scheme known as partial buffer sharing (PBS) is evaluated by using the matrix-analytic approach to obtain its stationary probabilities. An ATM bursty source model description is included, together with that of a phase-type Markov renewal process. A study of two classes of bursty traffic in an ATM multiplexer indicates that the burstiness of the traffic has a significant effect on its performance
