  • Abstract
Asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) networking is examined from a corporate point of view. The features required of a private network in order to provide a well-integrated, cost-effective solution are described. It is shown that a full featured ATM switching system is required to supply those requirements. Standards, including the IEEE 802.6 metropolitan area network standard, and technology are described for both early and mature public ATM environments
