Abstract :
The paper proposes a novel theory of fault location for EHV transmission line based on balance of energy. The theory establishes the fault location model with distributed parameters, calculates the energy of faulted transmission line with two different methods. The fault distance can be obtained by an iterative solving equation. EMTP simulated results show that the theory can not be influenced by the fault resistance and the system´s running mode. It has high precision of fault location.
