  • Abstract
    Housings, pumping diaphragms, and bases for a range of artificial hearts are made by vacuum forming and then joined together by radio-frequency (RF) welding. Insertion by a surgeon is made easier, since the ventricles can be folded up, compressed, squeezed, and held out of the way of the suturing because both the housing and the base are soft and flexible. The 65, 50, and 20 cm3 ventricles are in production for implantation in animals. The 65 and 50 cm3 ventricles have been implanted in eight calves. The pressure curves and absence of thrombosis on the inside of the heart are discussed
