The actual effect of category management used in bricks-and-mortar retail is an apparent one. However, due to the obvious differences between the e-tail and conventional retail on many aspects, such as goods display, list price, promotion, assortment mix, methods with new arrivals and dead stock and so on, there is great diversity on category management especially on application with category strategies between the two modes. The main purpose of this paper is to analyze this kind of diversity to show the specialty in category management of online retail comparing to conventional retail.
