Abstract
This paper describes a novel dipole antenna for applications in base station antenna of third-generation mobile communication systems. The antenna consists of two dipole arms, of which are only connected through a parallel strip-line. For antenna design, the Ansoft HFSS 9.0 is utilized to simulate and optimize the dimensions. The calculated bandwidth about 14.2% for VSWR less than 1.5 and about 23.8% for VSWR less than 2 at a central frequency of 2.05 GHz is obtained. Details of the proposed antenna design are presented and discussed, which can be candidate for the requirement of 3G base station, operating in 1710 and 2170 MHz.
