Abstract
A theoretical framework for analyzing and designing maximally decimated, size-limited filter banks for finite-length input signals is presented. This flexible framework allows for the analysis of many different methods which have recently been proposed to handle the special issues which arise when processing finite extent input signals. Size-limited filter banks are viewed as linear transformations which can be implemented using filter banks composed of linear, time-varying filters and resamplers. The framework is convenient for designing exact-reconstruction, size-limited filter banks which combine almost any signal extension and analysis filter pair
