Abstract
The theory behind an inspection system that can judge a solder fillet as passable or defective and quickly produce hard data for quality control is presented. Particular attention is given to a system of this type using laser technology. Issues treated are the definition of external inspection, inspection apparatus construction, inspection and analysis, quality control management functions, main specifications, and system configurations. The most significant feature of this system is the easily comprehensible, hard-copy form in which the inspection data are presented
