Abstract :
Recently, a novel method has been proposed by the present authors for the truncation of a finite difference (FD) or finite element (FE) mesh. It has been successfully applied to the analysis of two-dimensional scattering problems by perfectly conducting cylinders and is extended here to scattering problems by dielectric cylinders. Based on the equivalence principle, the scattered field outside of the object surface can be generated by an equivalent electric current and an equivalent magnetic current. Through discretization procedures, discretized boundary conditions for mesh truncation can be derived. Combined with the FD/FE method, two-dimensional scattering problems by dielectric cylinders can be solved rigorously and efficiently. Numerical results presented show the validity of the extended method.
