Abstract :
The measurement and analysis of body surface potential maps are discussed. A data reduction procedure that conserves spatial details and allows the extraction of clinically useful indices has been presented. For each heart beat, a sequence of consecutive maps, measured during a subject´s QRST interval, is analyzed by thresholding and subtraction. This process reduces the 3-D maps of 2-D shapes, with an 8:1 data reduction, without loss of spatial resolution. Then, the time of appearance and length of existence of the 2-D shape are calculated for each sequence of maps. Twenty-five normal subjects, 11 WPW, and 18 MI/CHD patients were studied. The results of the normals were found to differ significantly from those of the patients. Thus, the data reduction procedure, which retains the spatial details of the maps, also allows identification of simple, time-dependent indices of diagnostic value
