Abstract :
This paper presents a low power direct conversion UWB receiver with a pulse detector designed for operation in 3 UWB lower bands from 3.1 to 5 GHz. The IC is implemented using the 0.18-¿m RF CMOS technology with 1.8 V voltage supply. The proposed Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) has a variable gain optimized for low power consumption. The dc power consumption of the LNA is 7.1 mW for the minimum gain of 24 dB and 12.85 mW for the maximum gain of 40 dB within the 3.1-5.0 GHz band. Quadrature zero-IF down conversions and rectifications are used to detect the UWB pulses. An S-QVCO is used to generate the local oscillator frequency for each subband. The total power consumption of the receiver is 21.9 mW for the LNA gain of around 30 dB.
