Abstract
The spatial hole-burning effect (SHB) has been known to limit the performance of conventional DFB laser diodes to relatively low power operation. In order to ensure a stable single longitudinal mode (SLM) operation, DFB structures with modifications in the corrugation are considered. Namely, the inclusion of phase-shifts (PS) and non-uniform coupling coefficients is presented with a comparative analysis of the laser performances in the above-threshold regime.
