Abstract :
Diesel usage, its transportation, resulting inefficiency and pollution in buses is of major concern in India. The purpose of this paper is to offer an alternative energy source that is cleaner, more efficient and eliminate the need for diesel transportation as a fuel source. A further purpose is to enable the extension of the existing bus transportation system again, without increasing the use of diesel or its transportation. The novel approach to these goals is to use the existing electric railroad distribution system as a fuel source for converted internal combustion engine buses using diesel into electric buses. The thesis here is to model and demonstrate the benefit from the increased efficiency and reduction in pollution as well as the extension of range of the existing bus system while using the existing railroad distribution system as both a source of fuel (recharging) and an enabler of that service extension.
