Abstract :
This paper proposes an algorithm for the sub pixel motion compensation of H.264 that could be useful in the implementation of efficient and computationally less intensive motion compensation scheme especially for DSP processors. Our method divides the motion compensation scheme defined in the H.264 standard in to three separate steps and tackles each one individually. Furthermore, due to the greater occurrence of the various quarter pixel cases, we propose the calculation of all half pixel values of the reference image as it would simplify the calculation of quarter pixel values and result in an overall decrease in the time processing loads. The simulation results show overall 5 times improvement In the time processing loads of the motion compensation scheme for the Trimedia TM-1300 DSP processor, which results in a significant increase in the decoding speed of the H.264 decoder.
