Abstract :
As cellular communications evolves towards 3G and beyond, the software radio approach will become central in coping with the multitude of problems that the coexistence of multiple standards poses. A concrete case study of the application of the software radio approach in multi-standard transceiver design is described. This case study consists of a multi mode GSM/EDGE/UMTS/Bluetooth modulation/demodulation testbed. The proposed approach extends the action of DSP processors beyond simple or low rate baseband digital processing transceiver functions, which is current practice, to high rate baseband functions and even a part of the IF processing (e.g., frequency conversion). Implementation, performance and system quality aspects are discussed
