Abstract :
Load shedding is a very common phenomenon is Bangladesh. During summer, Gazipur experiences more than 15 hours of load shedding every day. This causes disruption in the academic works in IUT campus. The purpose of this paper is to analyse the cost optimisation of a PV-diesel hybrid energy generation system for IUT academic building, which can be used during load shedding. There are two models, one with only diesel generators and the other with PV-diesel hybrid generator which have been simulated. National Renewable Energy Laboratories (NREL) Homer Simulation tool was used to perform the techno-economic evaluation of the two configurations. Comparisons between the two are shown in terms of cost of operation, capital cost and cost of energy. After thorough investigation, we found that the proposed PV-Diesel hybrid model can reduce 10BDT/kWh compared to the conventional model.
