  • Abstract
The design of a magnetic stimulator capable of delivering a maximum of 10 kA with an adjustable risetime of 50-150 μs to a stimulating coil is presented. This stimulator is used to determine experimentally the strength-duration (S-D) curves of the median and ulnar nerves to compare the performance of magnetic and electrical stimulation. Parameters measured include latency, peak-to-peak amplitude, and dispersion of the maximally evoked potential. In addition, the average conduction velocity in the forearm, around the elbow, and in the proximal arm is measured
