Abstract :
This paper will examine the reasons why it is necessary to display vector fields in three dimensions, the representations that have been used to display them and the display devices that are available. It is assumed that the need to display the field is connected with the numerical simulation of a continuum field distribution, in particular with electromagnetic fields. A finite element solution contains a large amount of information that it would often be impossible to obtain by measurement, for example magnetic field and electric current distributions inside materials. This information can be of value to the designer of products and also to the developer of numerical methods
