Abstract :
When harmonic resonance problems exist in large networks, it can be difficult to identify the extent to which various capacitors and inductors in the system contribute to these problems. This paper attempts to address this issue by presenting a new method for identifying the relative participation of capacitors and inductors on the amplification of harmonics in the system. Specifically the participation of system capacitors and inductors to a particular voltage (or current) harmonic will be identified. This proposed method combines concepts of steady state analysis and modal analysis to identify dimensionless indices that quantify the participation of each capacitor and inductor to particular harmonic measurements. This method is validated through simulation studies.
