Abstract :
The paper addresses the problems of susceptibility testing (conducted and radiated) both in terms of test time and facilities required to meet the new high levels being required in many EMC standards. The paper does no consider specific standards but deals with two test methods which probably offer the most economical solutions in terms of power budget (field or equivalent field obtained per amplifier watt). These are not universally acceptable to current standards but are likely to gain increasing acceptance in the future. Their limitations are also discussed. An evaluation of these procedures is being undertaken by the Civil Aircraft EMC Research Club (EUREKA 462) managed by DRA Farnborough
