Abstract
Software design inspection is used for detection and removal of defects before they propagate to later software development phases. A number of software design inspection techniques have been developed. Selection of a technique for a particular scenario and development of new inspection techniques require evaluation of the existing techniques. No such evaluation criterion exists so far. This paper presents a basis for the evaluation of the effectiveness of reading techniques and proposes new criteria. An analysis of the existing techniques against these criteria has also been included in the paper.
