Stress in the workplace impacts various aspects of organizational performance but its impact has not been studied thoroughly in the context of employees´ commitment during organizational innovation and change. Based on the survey of Chinese and Indian IT professionals working for a large global bank, this study examines the relationship between stress and commitment to change and explores some antecedents of job stress that play an important role in generating commitment to change. Our findings show a strong negative relationship between job stress and commitment to change. We also find that even though lack of growth increases stress level, it is positively related to commitment to change. We further analyze the impact of job involvement, job interdependence and perceived supervisor status on stress and commitment to change.
