Abstract :
Rogowski coil current transducers have been used for measuring and detecting electric currents for decades. They have normally been considered only when other methods are unsuitable-as a last resort. For this reason it is difficult to obtain detailed information about the technique except in specialist scientific journals. In 1965 the CEGB laboratories at Harrogate began a programme to investigate Rogowski coils for use in the power supply industry and developed the technology for producing high-accuracy, reliable and robust measuring systems. Experience with their use over the years has been very satisfactory. They are now the preferred method of current measurement for a wide range of measurements and investigations. The author concentrates on measurement at power frequencies. Rogowski coils are also used to measure insulation discharges and for many people they are mainly associated with this use
