Abstract :
Photogrammetry is a technique that uses disparate perspectives obtained from images taken from multiple angles to calculate relative spatial locations of a set of points. This technique can be used for the reconstruction or estimation of the overall 3-D view of an object. We present a new algorithm, which takes a single input image and extracts some useful information from it in such a way that it can be used for the 3-D reconstruction of the object present in the image. The technique implies that the object whose 3-D image has to be generated, parallel lines in the form of a slit are projected over it. Rise and fall of the projected lines due to the elevations and depressions in the texture of the object would be noticed. This observation has been exploited by our application, which calculates the deviation of the line from the original interpolated line and then maps this deviation in the form of third dimension coordinates. These coordinates have been tested by making a triangular frame of the human face and rendering the results using OpenGL.
