Abstract :
Impedance and conductance techniques have been advocated in the determination of the condition of Pb-acid secondary batteries in service. The usefulness of these “ohmic” techniques lies in an understanding of the bounds and domain of the measurement. This paper reports the frequency response and battery impedance behaviour generally observed for a range of commercially available batteries. The generic behaviour of batteries typically used in telecommunications networks is demonstrated. The effect of temperature and residual capacity on the impedance spectra are also reported
