Abstract :
A low-cost multi-wavelength laser array (MLA) transmitter optical sub-assembly (TOSA) was demonstrated for the first time. The distributed feedback (DFB) grating of the MLA is fabricated with reconstruction-equivalent-chirp (REC) technique. A special hybrid-integrated method with planar lightwave circuit (PLC) is applied to couple 16 laser outputs of the MLA into one single-mode fiber. The TOSA shows very good uniformity in wavelength spacing. The side mode suppression ratios (SMSR) of all channels are over 40 dB. Lasers of this TOSA are directly modulated at 2.5 GHz, and the eye-diagram is presented.
