Abstract
This paper presents a performance analysis of an adaptive antenna array system for the downlink of the W-CDMA mobile communication system. The power method (see Jung, Y.P. et al., Telecommunications Review, vol.8, no.4, p.677-88, 1998; Choi, S., "Design Technique of an Array Antenna, and Telecommunication System and Method Utilizing the Array Antenna", USA patent no.5,999,800, 1999) developed for the uplink system has been adopted to compute the optimal weight vector of the TxAA (transmit antenna array) diversity system as well as the downlink beamforming system. The proposed system (both TxAA and beamforming system), designed by the power method, is compared to the conventional system that employs channel estimation only. It has been observed that the proposed system outperforms the conventional system
