Abstract :
This paper welcomes moves towards a standardised programming language for PLCs, but suggests that it is already time to start looking at the way such a language might be applied. A combination of standard programming language, standard methods and object-oriented program generation will ensure that automation loses its image of being a complex subject, too difficult for smaller companies to take on board. The PLC will be ready for the next century
