Abstract :
Optical burst switching (OBS) technology is a promising solution for the next generation Internet backbone. Hs implementation shows that burst assembly, contention resolution and QoS support constitute critical issues in the development of OBS services. In this paper, we propose a provision of QoS support over a JET-based OBS network using a new burst assembly and segmentation technique at the network edge and a novel segment priority-based contention resolution mechanism at the core nodes. A JET-like signaling protocol is proposed. It includes packet control that carries control information about burst´s segments (priority, length, etc.). Segments priorities are used by the contention resolution scheme to preferentially delete segments when contention occurs at core node. Simulation results show the benefits of our proposition.
