Abstract
Many applications require multipoint-multipoint communication support from the underlying network. However, the ATM network does not provide efficient mechanisms to support this functionality directly. This paper proposes a new multipoint-multipoint routing scheme called hierarchical domain representative multicast routing (HDRMR), one of the key aspects in multipoint communication support, for ATM networks. HDRMR can establish a multipoint-multipoint shared tree by utilizing some features in the PNNI specification and by introducing some new concepts such as the domain representative. Simulation results show that HDRMR performs better than MCBT.
