Abstract :
It is shown that the error weight profile technique of E. Zehavi and J.K. Wolf (1987) can be used to get upper bounds for multidimensional trellis codes of intermediate complexity. The error-rate diagram in the Zehavi-Wolf technique has the same number of states as the code. Analytic expressions for error bounds are presented for four- and eight-dimensional codes, having a complexity of up to eight states. To see the quality of the bounds, they are compared with computer simulation results. Multidimensional codes designed for practical applications, such as rotational invariance and amplitude fading, are also analyzed
