Abstract :
A variable rate SMVQ (VSMVQ) technique is proposed. This technique uses a simple edge-based classifier to classify the characteristics of impact vectors. In our experiment, the improvement over SMVQ is up to 2.48 dB at a lower bit rate. Moreover, the improvement over VQ can be up to 4.04 dB at nearly, the same bit rate
