  • Abstract
This paper shows that it is now feasible to produce a nickel cadmium product tailored for the telecommunications market. A product that has equal energy density to VRLA products at normal temperature and long discharges and better energy efficiency at higher discharges and lower temperature. Coupled with longer life and resistance to physical and environmental abuse this product can provide a solution to the difficult conditions which are, and will be, experienced with exterior situated back up systems in a wide variety of locations
