Abstract
A smart automatic signal selector (SASS) has been developed to detect gross failures of redundant input signals and select the unfailed signal. SASS is a self-contained, microprocessor-based system that is nonintrusive and can be easily installed with minimal impact to the plant. SASS modules have been installed in Units 1, 2 and 3 at the Oconee Nuclear Station and have averted at least one potential trip.<>
