Abstract
The performance of TCP-over-ATM using ABR and UBR services is of great importance to ATM development. Since the traffic control mechanism of ABR is quite complex, UBR is still an important candidate for TCP-over-ATM networks. In the paper we propose a new discarding policy with dual threshold based on per-VC EPD mechanism for UBR-based TCP-over-ATM networks. The policy requires keeping the maximum and the minimum of per-VC queue length in the ATM switch to determine when to drop incoming TCP packets. Our simulation results show that the scheme improves the TCP performance for balanced throughput and fairness.
