  • Abstract
In this paper, a Ćuk topology based single phase rectifier is proposed. Instead of using a single phase rectifier followed by a boost DC-DC converter, or using a bridge rectifier with two diodes and two switches, the rectifier´s input is chopped at high frequency during positive and negative cycles by a bi-directional switch in Ćuk conversion mode to get step-up/step-down rectification. The proposed rectifier chops the input current at high frequency, which is filtered to achieve low Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), within IEEE 519, IEC 61000-3-2 standards. No additional filter is required for this purpose. Moreover, as the current is switched directly, current displacement with the input voltage is unity. This results in high input power factor and also a simpler control scheme. The proposed circuit has less number of components than other similar schemes. It also has less semiconductor devices in each conduction path, which results in less conduction loss. The circuit exhibits good performance with variable load. No additional control is needed to achieve this goal.
