Abstract
Research in progress at the Battelle Human Performance Laboratory on laboratory simulation maintenance activities in nuclear power plants is described. Both theoretical aspects and practical implications are considered. Directions for future human factors research are indicated. Hardware and software environments for the laboratory are discussed and attention is given to examples of topics where laboratory research is valuable. The five topics selected are computer-aided remote maintenance, troubleshooting, motor skill, crew interaction, and maintenance procedures.<>
