Abstract :
The author argue that manufacturers of electric machine safety components must recognise that there are special responsibilities associated with the marketing of such products. There is a much greater need to provide information, often on subjects not directly related to the product and its application. Typically this need encompasses such topics as: safety legislation (regulations and directives); standards; risk evaluation; CE marking; safety techniques; and control system categories. Component manufacturers need to have a greater understanding of individual customer applications in order to offer the correct (i.e. safe) solution to a need. Technical support must be of the highest order. A highly ethical approach is essential-commercial considerations must take second place. In order to fulfil these needs, the author believes it is essential to understand the customers problem
