Human cognitive reliability analysis on driver by driving simulator

This paper is concerned with the relation between human factors and human error in driver´s response process on perception, cognition and action by human cognitive reliability model. For this purpose, in order to evaluate human factors in driver´s response process of perception, the response time that a subject perceives visual stimuli presented to his field in driving forward is obtained by cognitive experiment with driving simulator. The duration time that a subject stops a car by appearing obstacles on the road is obtained by braking experiment with driving simulator. It is investigated by human cognitive reliability model how to evaluate the effect of response time on several kinds of performance shaping factors such as driver´s experience, stress level and quality of interface. As a result, it is shown that the response times of perception, cognition and action of driver are corresponding to those of rule-base, knowledge-base and skill-base behaviors proposed in the field of human reliability previously. It is also noted that the effect of response time on performance shaping factors such as driver´s experience, stress level and quality of interface can be predicted by the proposed human cognitive reliability model.
