Abstract
For efficient and economical implementation of broadband ISDN (integration services digital network), a flexible, multipurpose telecommunication node architecture and its realization by CMOS LSI technology are expected to play key roles. The authors address this issue mainly from the CMOS LSI realization point of view, based on a previously proposed node architecture called Flex-Mux. The CMOS technology described here adopts a 1.0-μm design rule. An average gate delay time of 0.5 ns and a flip-flop toggle frequency of more than 400 MHz were obtained. Basic circuits for the implementation of the Flex-Mux architecture were fabricated on a trial basis, and it is shown that these circuits operate at speeds up to 200 MHz. These results indicate the feasibility of a cost-effective and flexible CMOS-based node architecture for future broadband ISDN
