Abstract :
The application of a fuzzy logic control (FLC) approach to the design of variable structure systems (VSS) is presented. Rule-based controllers which utilize fuzzy set theory have the advantage of not needing a mathematical description of the plant. This feature of FLC is combined with such properties of sliding motion in VSSs as control independence and reduced computational burden. Simulation results demonstrate the performance of fuzzy VSSs with different degrees of uncertainty. The neural variable structure controller is considered for DC electrical motors
