Abstract :
In this paper, we address the issue of multiservice circuit demand modeling in the radio dimensioning process for 3G/IMT-2000 systems. An extension of the Erlang B/C law to multi-service is exposed and applied to the UMTS dimensioning process. The multi-service Erlang law relies on joint blocking probability calculations. This new method is compared to existing ones, which are based on individual service treatment. The multi-service Erlang law exhibits a significant reduction in required bandwidths, due to the sharing of resources among the different services. However, this bandwidth reduction is very dependent on the traffic mix. The impact on the cell count in various cases has also been investigated, using Telemate´s dimensioning tool, NDTTM. It has been observed that the dimensioning results are greatly affected by the multi-service management in the demand modeling
