Abstract :
This work presents a discussion on load steps modeling for the analysis of the dynamic behavior of a DC-DC Buck converter. The transient responses for two different ways of applying load steps, one using a load current source and the other one using a variable load resistance, are compared. The main focus is on the overshoot/undershoot in the behavior of the output voltage for the above mentioned cases, taking into consideration the influence of the input voltage, the on resistance of the MOSFET switches, the DC resistance (DCR) of the output inductor and the equivalent series resistance (ESR) of the output capacitor. A comparison between measurement and simulation results is presented as well.
