  • Abstract
Through careful examination of the physiological properties of the arterial baroreceptors, a mathematical model was obtained that encompasses the results of different groups of researchers in one general equation. This equation describes the firing frequency of the baroreceptors as a function of mean arterial pressure and rate of change of arterial pressure; it allows for baroreceptor adaptation and includes a sensitivity term that a dependent on the rate of change of receptor firing with arterial pressure
