  • Abstract
The idea of the smart grid incorporates into the grid the benefits of distributed computing and communications to deliver real-time information and enable the near-instantaneous balance of supply and demand at the device level. The smart grid is the future of utility conservation by allowing real-time monitoring of electric consumption providing end users and utility companies a way to better conserve and plan their use of these limited resources. By measuring and monitoring transmission status along the grid, utility companies and municipalities can ensure a higher level of transmission efficiency, thereby saving massive amounts of energy, money, and environmental resources. This paper shows a simulation concept of a scaled version of a factory operation with virtual distributed electricity meters. Real-time electricity consumption is sent on internet from the four virtual electricity meters to a simulation system, which generates an operation schedule based on price rates provided by utility companies
