Abstract :
The paper discusses how a PWM DC-DC converter can be used as an electronic control by the load of an asynchronous micropower plant replacing the conventional speed and voltage control. The speed of the turbine generator group is kept within certain limits at the same time that reasonable voltage regulation is obtained. The control algorithm is based on current diversion from the main load to the DC-DC converter which is connected in parallel with it. The main load can be either the public services or a power converter or a DC-load. The excess of energy is dissipated in secondary loads by using a blocking series capacitor whose function is to switch the main load current to the secondary load. Also discussed is the presence of high peaks of current surges and the firing circuit malfunctioning which may occur and some of the measures to be taken into account to prevent them
